Safeguard Youth Training (SYT): Required Each Year

Safeguarding youth is a value at the core of the Scouting movement. It is vital to maintain a culture of active supervision, awareness, and safety at all levels of Scouting. Safeguarding Youth training will help you prevent harm to youth, is required for all Scouting America registered volunteers and is a joining requirement.

To take the training for the first time: Go to My.Scouting.org and create an account. You’ll receive an email notification with your account information, including a member ID/reference number. From the My.Scouting.org portal, you can launch the Safeguarding Training from the home page. Your training will automatically be updated in our system and associated with the member ID/reference number issued when you created the account.

To renew your Training: Visit the website My.Scouting.org and log into your account using your credentials. Once logged in, navigate to the "Menu" and select "My Dashboard" from the list of options. On the "My Training" page, you will find the Youth Protection training section. Click on "Youth Protection" to start the course and complete the accompanying exam. You may need to select "Retake Course" to renew the training.

Upon successful completion of the training, your records will be automatically updated in our system, and your membership will remain in good standing. Unless your membership was expired for expired SYT, there is no need to send us a copy of your completion certificate if you can view it online, as this indicates that your record has been updated in our master database.

However, if your registration was suspended, you MUST send your completed certificate to the Greater New York Councils Support Desk at SupportDesk@Scouting.org in order for your registration to be manually restored.

We thank you once again for your ongoing commitment to providing quality programs and experiences for the youth of New York City. The positive impact of the Scouting program is immeasurable, and it is through the dedication of adult role models like you that we can continue to offer life-changing opportunities to our Scouts. Your efforts are truly appreciated.
